Despite differences in body weight, LV weight, LV end-systolic elastance (Ees), and stroke work (SW) normalized for body weight, the LV end-diastolic pressure-volume relationship (EDPVR) was similar in all 3 groups. At the end of 2 weeks of feeding, LV volume was higher in both high-fed groups and the LV stroke volume index was higher in HVW than in either control group. Ees in the HVW group was approximately double that in the control group. The negative slope of the EDPVR was highly correlated (r = 0.92) with both Ees and end-diastolic volume index (EDVI) in all animals; thus, the EDPVR was a reliable index of LV contractility in this species.1.
